How to find and read your Bobcat engine code
Before you order injectors, pumps, filters, or anything else, you need to know exactly which engine is in your machine — and which generation of that engine. Even within the same family, parts aren't always interchangeable. Getting the wrong part is an expensive mistake.
Locate the engine identification plate
The engine ID plate is a metal tag affixed directly to the engine block — not the machine frame. It's typically found in one of these locations:
- On the engine block itself, near the top or side — look for a stamped or printed metal tag
- On the valve cover, on some models
The cab or frame also carries a separate machine serial number plate — that's a different number and won't tell you the engine generation on its own. You need the tag on the engine itself.
Read the engine code
Once you've found the plate, you're looking for three fields: Model, Serial No., and Option. The Model tells you the engine family. The Option code is what actually tells you the generation and fuel system — that's the number that matters most before you order parts.
D24
2.4L, 4-cylinder Doosan diesel. Found across a wide range of mid-size Bobcat skid steers and compact track loaders — S450–S650, T450–T650, and select excavators/Toolcats.
D34
3.4L Doosan diesel. Found in larger Bobcat machines requiring more power.
Some machines also carry a separate black Emission Control Information plate near the main tag. It repeats the Option code and adds displacement, engine family, and manufacture date.
Confirm your fuel system — Gen 1 vs. Gen 2
This is the step a lot of parts sites skip, and it's the one that actually prevents wrong-part orders. Around 2020, Bobcat redesigned the D18, D24, and D34 engines and switched fuel system suppliers. The two generations are not interchangeable.

- Redesigned starting around 2020 — but confirm by code, not by year

Can I just use my machine's serial number to find parts?
Your serial number identifies the model and year, but it doesn't reliably tell you the fuel system generation — especially on models built during the Gen 1-to-Gen 2 transition. Always confirm the engine code and, where possible, the fuel system directly.
My engine plate is missing or illegible. What do I do?
Use our Engine Parts Quote Tool and include your machine serial number, year, and a description of what you're seeing — injector connector type, pump shape, anything visible. We'll work through it with you.
How can I tell Delphi from Bosch just by looking?
Check the Option code on your engine plate. A DL-prefix code means Gen 1 Delphi. A DM-prefix code means Gen 2 Bosch. On some Gen 1 engines you can also confirm visually — the injector connector itself is often stamped "DELPHI."
